5 Common Painting Mistakes

Most people don’t consider painting a serious task. For them, painting is just a task of pouring the brush in the paint and applying it to the walls and ceiling. Because of this approach, they make several painting mistakes. In this blog, we have brought you five of them.

Ignoring the Natural Light

A big mistake most people don’t even think of while choosing colours for their room is that of ignoring natural lights. If your room has inadequate natural light it is not recommended to choose dark colours. If you choose darker colours, it will become mandatory to keep lights on every time. Moreover, darker colours make a room with inadequate light a dark, depressive place.

Choosing Too Bright Colours

Bright colours draw the attention of eyes. Bright colours are good for spacious, airy, and well-lit rooms. These colours create a great environment in such rooms. But, if the rooms do not meet these parameters, the bright colours may create an uncomfortable environment.

Matching Too Much

Most people focus on matching the paint colours with furniture in their room. Matching is okay but to a certain extent. Focusing excessively on matching will make the room environment monotonous and aesthetically boring. Instead of focusing too much on matching, you should think about contrast colours. You can seek inspiration from décor magazines and web designs. You will get mesmerizing images of well-painted rooms. You can also take colour ideas from them.

Choosing White for Dark Places

White creates a great environment in rooms with great natural light, but it looks bad in rooms with no natural lights. Therefore, you should avoid white for dark rooms in your home.

Not Using Primers Before Paints

Many people don’t think about primers when painting but it is the golden rule when asked about from painters- don’t forget to apply primer. Primers hide the flaws on the surface and make it smooth. Moreover, they increase the life of the paints.

We recommend before you do-it-yourself when it comes to painting get to know the colours, décor ideas, and have enough time. You can also seek someone who has prior experience- hire professional painters Vancouver. They are painting experts, and they will do the job with full precision, the way it should be.

Tips to Fix Five Common Painting Problems

If you go for a do-it-yourself painting job and you are not a painting pro, then mistakes are likely. Read this blog before you embark on the job. We are going to tell you about five common painting mistakes that DIY painters make, and how you can fix them if you make them. Hopefully, you will not make them, because we will tell you why they happen, so you can avoid the mistakes!

Let's discuss them.

1. Drips

Drips are very common, and they occur because of poor painting technique. Mostly, this occurs when you overload the brush with the paint, and you don't remove the extra paint in the paint tray.

To remove the drips, you can use a scraper or sandpaper. If you take a scraper, then you can scrape the paint drips with it. If you use the sandpaper, then you should smooth the drippy surface with the sandpaper. Once you are done with it, repaint the sanded area.

2. Stains

Stains on new paint generally occur because of smoke and dirt on the old paint. This may appear if you have not prepared the surface and applied primer to the walls before painting them.

To remove the stains, you can use TSP for this purpose. Once you apply it, wait until it dries. Apply stain blocker on the stains and let it dry. Once it dries, then recoat the wall.

3. Wrinkled Paint

This problem occurs when you paint an area in a hurry, or you don't let the paint dry before you go for another coat. This may happen because of high temperature as well.

To fix the wrinkled paint, you will have to strip the paint first. Then smooth the area with sandpaper. Next, repaint the area. To strip the paint, you can use a chemical stripper, or a hot air gun.

4. Brush Marks

Brush marks generally occur when you don't use the brush in a systematic way. You move the brush sometimes in a one direction, and sometimes in a different direction.

To remove the brush strokes, first, use sandpaper on the area. Next, clean the area by wiping it properly. Then finally, repaint the area.

5. Poor Coverage

An incorrect number of coats result in a poor painting coverage. The poor coverage causes a patchy appearance, and therefore needs repainting.

To eliminate the poor coverage, rub the affected area with sandpaper. Once you are done, repaint that area.

First, however, try to avoid these common mistakes. But if they happen, fix them with the suggestions mentioned above.

Where to find the best Painters in Vancouver

So you are thinking of painting your home, but you’ve never quite had that creative streak. Perhaps you are too busy, or just don’t fancy the hassle and effort that painting can end up being? In that case, you’ll want to know where the top painters in Vancouver are, and how to find them.

Gone are the days of trawling through newspaper ads or the yellow pages, calling dozens of different people hoping to find a decent and reliable painter to assist you in your renovation.

With the convenience of the internet, painters in Vancouver can be found through a number of different websites and by utilizing the reviews on these websites, you have a far greater chance of finding the best painters in Vancouver

It is best to shortlist at least two or three of the painters in Vancouver who have the most reputable reviews, and from here you can start asking them for quotes. To ensure you get the best deal, it is a necessity to get at least two to three quotes, although the more the better.

Once you have an idea of what the going rate is, you can select and negotiate with the painters to enable you to reach the cheapest deal. It is a common mistake to choose the first painter that gives you an average looking price, and by doing this you could end up paying a much higher rate.

While using the internet is great, there is still a lot to be said about the tried and tested method of word of mouth and first-hand experience. Asking friends or family to help recommend painters in Vancouver is a good way to ensure that you find a reputable person for the job.

Painting is not something to take lightly, and a poor finish can ruin the look of an entire house, so ensuring that you deal with a professional is a must.

If you take the time to research and compare, you shouldn’t find it too hard to get the best professional painter in Vancouver that is right for you.
